Merant, a software provider, is introducing Collage, a content management solution for application-driven Web sites.
Collage aims to enable enterprises to protect, track and re-use assets, speeding time-to-market and reducing costs, making a full-scale Web Content Management (WCM) solution available at an affordable price.
The technology, says the company, seamlessly integrates with software configuration management (SCM) tools, including the MERANT PVCS product family and provides a collaborative environment for the application developers and the Web design team to build Web applications and dynamic Web sites.
The technology is designed to manage the entire Web development lifecycle from creation to deployment, and includes workflow control, a deployment engine and many built-in productivity features that get Web infrastructure up and running quickly while providing a secure, easy-to-use environment for ongoing content contributions.
For many organizations, the Internet has increasingly become the "virtual storefront"
for the entire enterprise. In order to maintain customer, partner and employee satisfaction, loyalty and retention, most companies must provide 24/7/365 availability, along with real-time access to data sources, as critical components of a strong CRM or supply chain strategy.
Among the new Features
Task Management with Workflow Control: Creates a collaborative environment by enabling a team to manage all of the development, writing, editing and approval stages. This functionality allows organizations to tailor workflow to match their internal processes.
Auditing and Reporting: Tracks and keeps an audit trail of changes to site assets. Project managers gain the ability to know who made what changes when and who approved them, ensuring accountability and traceability.
Content Contribution Editor and Templating: Enables content contributors to write and edit only the sections of a page they are responsible for in an easy-to-use editing environment using the browser-based WYSIWYG content contribution editor or any preferred authoring tools, including Microsoft Office Applications and Macromedia Dreamweaver.
Automatic Notification: Notifies contributors via email when a task is waiting for approval or requires individual action.
Integration with PVCS Dimensions and Version Manager: Deploying code and content together enables full automation of testing and publishing cycles. By managing software configuration and enterprise content together, enterprises gain improved operational efficiency in e-business initiatives.
