More than 200 participants, representing 78
companies, including system integrators, financial institutions, major
equipment vendors and telecommunications carriers attended a one-day open
meeting to hear a variety of presentations on the technical specifications
supported by the Broadband Wireless Internet Forum (BWIF). The consistent
theme of the presentations from BWIF members is that they have joined
together to drive a broadband fixed wireless industry standard.
"Our expectations were exceeded in a spectacular fashion," said Ender
Ayanoglu, chairman of the Broadband Wireless Internet Forum (BWIF). "Twice
as many participants attended as we anticipated. This demonstrates the
intense interest of the European market in broadband fixed wireless access."
The technology supported by BWIF enables solutions that can deliver
high-speed data, voice and video services to small and medium sized
enterprises and residential users. Most importantly, these services can be
provided much faster and more economically because they do not involve the
high cost of laying cable or wires.
BWIF members from Europe, North America and Asia support a uniform wireless
standard because it will speed adoption of new technologies while allowing
for innovations. The specific standard supported by BWIF members offers
exceptional broadband transmission quality for data, voice and video at
relatively low cost. Compared to wired systems, installation is much
simpler and far less disruptive to individuals, businesses and communities.(press release)
