Semantic knowledge modeling is the development of a set of facts and their relationships that captures and formalizes all essential technical knowledge about a product. Because S1000D is used to document complex technology products and equipment, upfront semantic modeling efficiently ensures accuracy and completeness in content development. It also enables that content to be retrieved and consumed in new and flexible ways. SiberSafe's modeling technology is built on the open W3C Semantic Web standards RDF and OWL, so organizations are not locked into a proprietary solution once a significant volume of knowledge has been captured.

The semantic knowledge model imposes accuracy and completeness on all authored material. Using SiberSafe S1000D Visual Modeler, knowledge is contributed directly into the semantic model by the subject matter expert, leaving no possibility of factual misinterpretation. The user interface is optimized for S1000D-compliant Data Modules and pre-populated with S1000D procedures, conditions, codes, etc., shielding the SME from the complexities of the specification whilst ensuring precise content development planning and production. Information can be incrementally added to the semantic model as it becomes available during the product development lifecycle, so there is no need to wait until all information is available before starting the modeling process.
Auto-Generation of S1000D Data Modules Shortens Timescales Once the model is complete, draft S1000D Data Modules can be automatically generated, greatly expediting the authoring process. The unambiguous presentation of all facts and relationships minimizes the iterations required between subject matter expert and author/s. Time is saved in both authoring and QA, and overall project timescales are dramatically shortened.
The technology establishes associations between Data Modules and appropriate parts of the semantic model, and will automatically notify Data Module owners about any relevant changes in the model. This makes it easy to maintain the accuracy of S1000D Data Module content as changes are made by the engineering team to the underlying technology product.
