Consumers are asking for more voice portal services, and more services means longer talk times, generating potential subscription and advertising revenue for portals and portal players, according to research.
A recent survey by Jupiter Communications ranks the services consumers would like to receive on their mobile devices. The leading responses include: 49% of respondents would like email-by-phone, followed by location-based services like driving directions (39%), traffic reports (37%) and weather (34%).
SpeechWorks International is introducing the SpeechWorks Content Catalog, a single point of access to market-leading audio content and content applications for businesses that are incorporating speech recognition into their business strategies.
The Content Catalog contains over 10,000 audio reports, applications and services such as weather, traffic and news from leading content providers including HeyAnita, iSyndicate, IT Network, ON24 and TelSurf Networks.
The SpeechWorks Content Catalog includes personal information management (PIM) applications such as e-mail, calendaring and voice-activated dialing; location-based services such as driving directions, traffic and weather; personalization services, news, entertainment and sports -- all in a range of languages -- and with supporting demonstrations.
SpeechWorks created the Content Catalog to allow its customers and partners to bring premium voice portals to market quickly. SpeechWorks customers and partners simply locate the content they want to include in their services, sample a demo and connect with the aggregator or provider.
"The right content can build loyal relationships with consumers and differentiate from competitors," comments Mitch Ratcliffe, chief content officer, ON24. "By partnering with SpeechWorks, the speech recognition market leader, we can help voice portals achieve their marketing goals through rich, targeted audio content."
