The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the principal investigative arm of the United States Department of Justice, has implemented Akamai’s EdgeSuite to improve
overall site performance while ensuring effective delivery of content on their website .
The FBI procured the EdgeSuite services through a federal contract held by one of Akamai's premier solution provider partners.
“Improving security and ensuring business continuity of e-government initiatives are paramount for state and federal agencies today, and we’re pleased that EdgeSuite met the FBI.gov’s requirements for a multitude of critical Web business needs” said Michael Ruffolo, executive vice president, global sales, services, and marketing, Akamai.
“EdgeSuite’s decentralised data delivery approach ensures that all forms of content on FBI.gov are consistently available to the global public.”
With EdgeSuite, the FBI.gov site is able to effectively respond to unexpected increases in site traffic by off-loading the delivery of the site to Akamai’s distributed edge computing platform. In addition, FBI.gov has reaped notable performance increases since deploying EdgeSuite in September 2001, claiming one of the top 3 positions on Keynote’s Government 40 Internet Performance Index for the past 22 weeks.
