Content Management solution provides the backbone for improved academic website
23 November 2001
Mediasurface is providing the content management software behind the University of Northumbria's updated website.
The University of Northumbria provides online information for a student and teacher community numbering 23,000 users.
The site contains information on a wide variety of topics including course information, welfare provisioning, housing issues and facts and figures on the surrounding area.
Prior to implementing Mediasurface, the site comprised over 30,000 pages all managed by a central project manager and a team of three web professionals.
The University found that the site had little coherence in terms of design or content, and that information published on the site was becoming rapidly out of date. This was due to the sheer volume of information being passed to the web team from the various university departments. Navigation through the site was also inconsistent, adding to the incoherent feel.
The need for a content management solution was identified as a way of empowering more individuals to provide information for the site, and to give it a coherent,
'corporate' look and feel.
