Vasont released Vasont 10, the latest version of its single-source content management system that enables organizations to store their multilingual content once for maximum reuse and delivery to multiple channels.
"The theme behind Vasont 10's improvements is 'run faster'," said Richard Schiding, Vasont
Systems' CEO. "Faster processing along with the ability to store graphical elements and documents
in the same repository will allow Vasont users to continue to increase their productivity, money
saved, and time-to-market. Our goal is to provide the most robust, single-source, component-level
content management system on the market, and we're confident that Vasont users will be very happy
with version 10."
Digital asset management capabilities have been added to the technology to make it easier to manage multimedia content. Users can simply drag-and-drop multimedia components, in a wide variety of file formats, from their desktop into Vasont. They can be viewed in the Vasont File Explorer several different ways, including thumbnail, detail, or list views.
All multimedia content is treated just like other content in the Vasont repository:
Metadata can be attached to all digital assets and used for search criteria. Users will always be able to access old versions of multimedia components. Each component is implicitly reused.
In the current business regulatory climate, the ability to organize, manage, and search
unstructured content is critical for full regulatory compliance and overall business
productivity. Vasont 10 provides users with the ability to capture, organize, and search all of
their information at once by allowing them to store unstructured documents and structured
component-level content together in the same database. Users can now drag-and-drop entire
unstructured documents from their desktop directly into the Vasont repository. Powerful search
capabilities allow users to find specific content within the text of the documents. Users can
reuse whole documents or pull text snippets from within the documents to combine and reuse them
with their structured content.
Management of Modular Reuse
The new Pointer Log in Vasont 10 manages modular reuse in a similar way that Vasont's Global
Change Log manages component reuse, giving users complete control over the implementation of changes to reused content. The Pointer Log tracks and time-stamps all changes made to referenced content and quickly tells the user exactly what changes need to be approved for a particular pointer/reference. Comments can also be added to each entry to facilitate collaboration. This feature is particularly powerful for quality control and compliance needs and works equally well in a client's custom environment or in a standard reuse model such as DITA.
