The last time I wrote something about the war it was shortly after it started
I was in shock, like the rest of the world.
Not just shock because all wars are shocking, but shock at the arbitrary and irrational way that US suddenly started the attack, after UN inspectors and Iraq were working together to clear allegations of weapons of mass destruction, and the long range missile were dutifully, systematically being destroyed as per the inspectors request
Blixsaid it plain, the US obstructs the progress of the UN work.
Before it could become globally accepted that weapons of mass destruction were not an acceptable justification for invasion, the US rushed the troops in.
Over the last couple of months, the US have made great fools of themselves in front of the rest of the world, and they are trying to get everyone else in Europe involved, so at least they wont be the only ones laughed at.
Now the situation is very messy, and even more dangerous than before.
Saddam is hiding, the country is being ruled by the imam who is a bit fundamentalist and decisively anti American, there is growing instability in the region, terrorism is likely to soar, and the US and the UK, who have been ridiculed by their own tactical and operational failures, are now putting pressures on other European countries to send in their troops on "peace keeping" actions.
Peace keeping? The US is actively campaigning to engage other European into a war that otherwise is politically no longer sustainable.
If Italy sends in 3000 troops - without Parliamentary approval - and they get attacked by anyone in Iraq - we are not sure who is quite who right now - then Italy will be automatically at war, not because the Italians wanted it, but because the Minister of Defense is a dumb ass.
The same with Poland, once they send in the troops, they won t be able to pull out anymore
Which other countries are being offered the opportunity of leadership in the peace keeping efforts? And where is the press? What are political editors thinking of?
The real shame is that all of the political moves currently threatening to extend the conflict to involve Europe against we don’t know which countries in the Middle East - possibly Syria and Iran, and could also see Israel involved - are being carried out below board, without public consultation of parliamentary debate.
The international community is seriously risking to become the victim of a manipulation of a group of individuals who is acting arbitrarily, irrationally and against public consensus, with a clear motive: war for war sake
The people have an obligation to isolate such individuals, and find constitutional instruments to fight the arbitrary use of powers. Urgently.
Europe stability and democracies are at stake and the future of the world
