Affino latest version goes to market with a mission: make it to the top
3 August 2001, 10 am GMT
Affino, a 'rapid deployment' CMS system developed by Emojo, a small London based software company, is now available in version 1.9.5
The current release is a direct result of the software company's 'Extreme Development Methodology', that claims to deliver beyond traditional CMS functionalities, at higher convenience.
"There are thousands of Content Management Systems out there today, but none of them deliver a web Communications suite fast and comprehensive as Affino" challenges Markus Karlsson, Development Director and Emojo founder.
"We've taken a radical stance and developed Affino for far
more than just the purpose of simply managing site content. We believe that a website system should take care of everything, from running
public advertising campaigns, to generating external XML driven dynamic forms and private streaming video chat. All this should
be ready to use within 24 hours of purchasing the product." Karlsson adds.
New features available in version 1.9.5 include
· XML Dynamic Form generator
· Advertising Campaign Management module for full control of siteadverts
· Comment / Rate content with moderator support
· On screen 'Smart Edit' for single click on-screen editing
· Site Forums with leading forum functionality
· 'Skin Switching' to enable single click site look changing
· Chatstream Module enabling instant live video feed with multi user text chat interface
"Generally CM systems end up becoming so complex now that entire new departments of IT staff are now mandatory in order to deploy and maintain.
Last time I checked, CMS systems were supposed to cut the ownership costs for web systems, not increase them." boasts Jeff Rhys-Jones, Emojo's Technical Director
Affino is powered by Macromedia ColdFusion, a versatile web application server technology suited to Affino multipurpose architecture that can handle
websites, intranets and extranets.
Emojo faces the challenges of all emerging software companies, but on top of the
advanced integrated solution, it has a couple of interesting credentials.
They first gained recognition for their 'extreme website delivery' methodology back in 1999 when succeeding to complete a bespoke CMS for Hillary Clinton, then first lady of the United States of America, in under 72 hours. www.womenindemocracy.com
The site involved the writing of up to 69 individual protocols and the porting of 10,000 pages of pre-written secure context content.
"Of course I did not know that Hillary had one, when I chose it to power our portal" says Paola Di Maio, editor and founder of
content-wire "but they promised to get us up and running and to support our mission within our budget, and that's how you are reading this now"
Over the last couple of years Emojo has radically enhanced Affinos code base, increasing reliability and friendlyness of the user interfaces.
Affino web technology also powers some of Europe's most prestigious medical institutions, claim the developers, best proof that Affino can deliver rapid results
in the most demanding market sectors, they say.
Introductory prices for the basic license begin at 2000 pounds, the interactive demo site lets users build a trial implementation.
Emojo, who is also looking for commercial partners, is offering all Content-wire readers a promotional discount of 5% of their retail prices.
