Tesco, the largest food retailer in the UK with a successful online operation, has chosen to implement PeopleSoft 8 Human Resource Management Software.
Employing over 185,000 people in the UK and 240,000 worldwide, Tesco wanted
to deploy a single HR system, standardising business processes and reporting
throughout the world.
"We are becoming a global retailer with stores in Hungary, Poland, Czech
Republic, Thailand, Taiwan, South Korea and Malaysia but have no global reporting structure in place. All of our reporting had to be done in one central place to achieve standardisation and this created a bottleneck."
David Richardson, People Insight Director at Tesco
PeopleSoft HRMS 8 will be implemented in two phases with the UK and Thailand
going live this year, and eight other countries from 2003. Moving over from a mainframe to a Pure Internet Architecture, browser-based system, Tesco envisages substantially reducing system costs.
"We looked at solutions from SAP and Oracle but felt that a combination of functionality and PeopleSoft's culture matched our requirements best. PeopleSoft is very customer focussed and their internet technology, ease of
deployment and ongoing maintenance of their product proved very attractive."
Continued Richardson.
The embedded Collaborative Applications and Employee Portal within PeopleSoft 8 HRMS will allow intuitive user interaction, improving the speed and quality of information delivered to managers and employees, throughout the Group.
Tesco see this project as essential to help ensure that the right people are attracted, trained, rewarded and retained in the future.
"Tesco is a real example of the real-time enterprise in action. By moving vital business processes online, Tesco will achieve true competitive advantage" said Dale Thomas, PeopleSoft's VP and general manager for UK.
