Infotrieve, integrated solution provider for scientific, technology and medical (STM) content acquisition, distribution and management worldwide, and Stanford University's HighWire Press, announced today that they will utilize Infotrieve's linking technology to enable non-digitized HighWire titles and article references to be ordered seamlessly through the Infotrieve gateway.
"When searching across the 12 million abstracts and one million full-text articles currently at HighWire, it is inevitable that some content will not be available in full-text online," said HighWire director, John Sack. "We are pleased to be able to offer readers easy access to our publishers' pre-electronic full-text articles via the Infotrieve document delivery system."
Now when HighWire visitors search publication archives for titles that have been implemented under this agreement, they can order and receive non-digitized articles quickly and easily by selecting the title or abstract and following order instructions. Most article requests are fulfilled within 24 hours.
Some of the HighWire-affiliated publishers have also chosen to insert Infotrieve links within the article references to cited abstracts, making bibliographic searching all the more convenient.
Jan Peterson, Infotrieve's V.P. of Content Development added, "We are glad to be working with HighWire Press and the caliber of Highwire-affiliated publishers whose journals are hosted on HighWire. Articles from HighWire publications are in high demand from Infotrieve customers and our staff is expert at quickly locating the requested articles from our network of reliable sources, clearing the copyright and delivering it to the customer either in print or as a scanned image encrypted with our proprietary i-Viewer Digital Rights Management software."
HighWire is offering this functionality to all of its 166 affiliated publishers. Already 36 publishers are in various stages of implementation with more expected to follow in the weeks ahead.
