Ovidius provides a trial version of XMetaL Author
DITA Edition, which can be downloaded free of charge on the Ovidius homepage.
With this software the Japanese company JustSystems has launched a powerful XML/ SGML editor that allows for easy authoring DITA content.
DITA is a topic-oriented and widely-adopted approach to XML-based documentation.
XMetaL combines all the productive features of a typical XML editor with the high level of flexibility offered by the DITA concept. As
leading reseller for the XMetaL Author DITA Edition Ovidius offers consultancy and configuration services as well as workshops on how to integrate the tool into your environment. To find out more, don't hesitate
to get in touch with us.The XML-based documentation concept DITA was originally developed by IBM and is now maintained and defined by OASIS (Organisation for the Advancement of
Structured Information Standards). Unlike book-oriented approaches that are based on chapters, DITA uses topics - small chunks of information which can be reused across various publications and compiled with regard to different devices and reader groups. XMetaL Author DITA Edition makes working with topics easy.
The integrated DITA Map Editor helps the user to organise and
compile topics to facilitate reuse of information throughout different documentation contexts and deliverables.
With XMetaL Author DITA Edition, however, users can work on an even lower level and change components within topics. Tasks such as marking content for reuse and pasting it into other topics by using the Drag & Drop function can easily be accomplished with the software.
In addition, any changes made to a reusable component can instantly be updated in any other topic that uses it.
The DITA Edition by XMetaL also allows users to publish to different delivery formats such as PDF or HTML simply by using the integrated DITA Open Toolkit. It also offers a function to automatically generate tables of content and indices.
