Zycus releases Autoclass
10 December 2001
Zycus, a provider in e-Catalog Content Management Solutions, is releasing AutoClass, a next generation classification solution for e-Catalogs.
Designed to assist marketers to analyze spending patterns by product and supplier, it also provides a common platform for mapping different supplier and buyer plans to the industry standard: The Universal Standard Products and Services Classification (UNSPSC).
AutoClass is an automated database to classify products out of 13,000 categories, claim
its developers. It works through a database engine that removes the concepts and then categorizes the product by statistically linking the models to product categories.
The speed of automatic classification (100,000 documents per hour) enables very rapid enablement, and provides a way of replacing slow manual coding. The AI (Artificial Intelligence) based classification engine is trained on millions of product items where it separates statistically significant patterns. Built-in libraries and embedded domain intelligence help in automatic and accurate classification of the supplier s/client s plan into UNSPSC at a reduced cost, while version control is made possible through continuous update every two weeks.
AutoClass is language and domain independent, and can process e-Catalogs on a real time basis using a web interface.
Content regularity has become critically important to the success of various e-commerce initiatives, especially e-Procurement. The Universal Standard Products and Services Classification (UNSPSC) is an open global coding system that allows marketers to consistently classify the products and services they buy and sell, thereby providing a comprehensive picture of the company's business and customers.
AutoClass database helps organizations in tracking and purchasing products and services, facilitate expenditure analysis, and help maintain expenditure control.
Categorization is an important component of catalog content management, as only properly structured catalogs allow buyers to make informed purchase decisions and to accurately review market spending patterns, said Sanjay Gala, executive vice president of Business Development, Zycus.
While UNSPSC is fast emerging as the standard categorization structure for products and services, the majority of suppliers (and buyers) have either their own categorization structure or none at all.
