Sun Microsystems has distributed more than two million registered licenses for the Solaris 10 Operating System since the software became available on Jan. 31. These numbers coupled with a record number of visitors to the Sun website during
the last six months highlight the incredible demand for the freely available OS.
"The interest in Solaris 10 is exceptional, we've seen on average more than 11,000 downloads per day," said Tom Goguen, vice president, Operating Platforms Group, Sun Microsystems. "By open-sourcing Solaris and our Java EE applications server, Sun is enabling a new wave of innovation in the industry.
Solaris 10 is available as a free download at sun.com. It includes more than 180 of the most popular free and open source software packages such as the Sun Java Desktop System, GNU utilities and Perl and Python programming languages and the Sun Java System Directory Server, a powerful LDAP directory server and the Sun Java System Application
Server, an open source Java EE certified application server based on Sun's project GlassFish project.
