GE Global eXchange Services business-to-business Internet commerce service provider and Poet Software, eCatalog content management provider, are teaming up to provide hosted catalog management services to Global 1,000 companies.
The services are designed to allow buying organizations to lower procurement cycle times and reduce overhead costs associated with managing supplier catalogs.
Poet will provide content management software, called eSupplierWeb, that allows a buying organization to import supplier catalog content, cleanse the data, apply classification and custom pricing, and then load the data into its procurement systems in the appropriate data format. GE Global eXchange Services (GXS) will provide software hosting services, as well as project planning and management, testing, training and ongoing technical support.
Supplier community enablement and management services are also available from GXS. The hosted services are compatible with all major electronic catalog data exchange formats, as well as major e-procurement, supply chain network and marketplace platforms, enabling buyers and suppliers to trade based upon clean, current and customized product information.
"Catalog management and supplier enablement are significant obstacles to successfully implementing electronic procurement systems, with many companies lacking the internal expertise to manage their suppliers’ electronic catalogs," said Dirk Bartels, president and CEO of Poet Software. "GXS provides outsourced, hosted catalog management using Poet eSupplierWeb, coupled with expert content consulting based upon GXS's extensive experience in B2B content management."
"To speed the process of acquiring supplier catalogs, buyers must provide assistance to suppliers in the form of catalog management tools," said Chris Hodges, general manager of marketplace solutions for GXS. "Poet Software's supplier enablement tools - combined with GXS's hosting, community support and consulting services - provide a supplier self-service model to support the complex catalog management needs for large organizations."
