Content management specialist, Tridion, has seen a 70% increase in requests for Intranets across Europe.
The trend is set to continue, according to the company, as corporations realise that valuable intellectual capacity has never been recorded centrally and cannot be easily regained once employees have left or taken on different responsibilities.
The demand for Intranets can also be attributed to companies
putting the focus back on internal communication
following restructuring in order to retain and motivate remaining employees. It also makes knowledge sharing easier for training purposes or when employees take on new responsibilities.
"Last year the emphasis was very much on the Internet as businesses looked to jump on the e-commerce bandwagon. This year has delivered a short, sharp shock to many organisations, not least because the skills and knowledge base has been depleted,” says Alun Cope-Morgan, UK managing director at Tridion.
"Organisations are now looking to put their houses in order, starting with a central repository for all information."
"An Intranet is an ideal way of ensuring that, if downsizing or staff churn does occur, the rest of the company’s knowledge store remains intact. It’s also a good investment if funds are still tight, as once the content is created, it can be selectively repurposed for use on Web sites or corporate brochures," he adds.
