The last few months have witnessed an historical event, without precedent.
The largest military power in the world, the US, has acted arbitrarily against international approval and recommendation, based on personal motives, unfounded allegations of WMD to fiercely attack Iraq.
If a US Head of State cannot abide to law and authority, that’s much more serious if anyone else does not comply, say me or you.
Law and authority necessary to ensure the equal rights and freedom of individual citizens in their respective states
While it is true that Saddam’s regime was horrifying, like lots of other things in the world, it is also true that at least he managed to somehow run the country with some kind of government.
A government that refused to bow to economic muscle of America, he refused to be given orders by the US. And Iraq was, of all OPEC countries in the ME, possibly the only one that took a clear ideological anti-American stance.
And that is why America hated Saddam, and that is why they mounted all sort of excuses like ‘terrorism’ and WMA to justify its push.
The American government cannot face being contradicted.
Now that’s a problem as far as global democracy is concerned.
Informed sources agree that there is no established link between Al Qaida and the Iraqi government, despite massive media propaganda to the contrary
Informed sources also know that there is a proven link between the CIA and Al Quaida, while information on such activities is kept from the public eye.
Some theories even suggest that terrorist networks are fed and sustained by American money, so that military action against selected targets may be justified. All in the family: that would not be new.
Saddam’s rebellion to ideological subjugation of the States, was indeed crazy, but admirable in its singularity.
The guy - don’t get me wrong, I do think he is a bastard in many ways - takes no shit from nobody, especially from the Bush’s.
I don’t know many people with that cheek, there is something there that I kind of like in that, somehow.
Now the US government, after having fooled all of the American citizens with wrong information and propaganda into supporting a ‘just war’ is very cleverly offering
‘peacekeeping opportunities’ to European countries, knowing full well that the conflict in the Middle East has only just begun, and analysts forecast ‘mid to long term’ US presence in the Gulf.
That is a typical hypocritical and deviant tactic, well adopted by the worst, and highest, strategic circles.
To give out wrong or imcomplete information to deliberatelly mislead other peoples ’action, as to serve one’s goals.
Make no mistake about it
Now, what does that mean for global order and stability?
There are a couple of scenarios:
If one superpower is allowed to stampede freely around the world to pursue its own economic interests, killing and bombing without having to account to anyone for its actions, and is allowed to infringe all international laws and not to abide to international conventions , then it is fair to say that within a few years there will be only one superpower, ruling all the world by force (‘muscle’ as they call it) , and anyone who disagrees will be labeled as ‘terrorist’ and zapped off the earth. We shall all be slaves to the Bush familty and their friends who trade weapons and oil.
That is a risk, but it is not likely to happen. Because opposing forces are indeed strong, although not completely organized, nor maybe clear about what strategy to pursue.
Justice is the only solution if a just system needs to be achieved.
The other scenario, is that the international community, represented by the UN, enforces its status as authority to act against abuse of powers, especially of superpowers.
This means that any country interested in ‘peacekeeping opportunities’ to try and clear up the mess made by such an irrational war, should act only under a clear UN mandate, working with representative of other countries and local people to make sure nobody takes advantage of such an unstable situation.
In time of uncertainty, it is the
’law of the strongest that’ wins’
That is fascism. Fascism as gratuitous Law and Order, an ideology that supports excessive use of de facto authority for its own sake, that does not allow dissent, does not sustain anything outside itself, and does not support freedom of choice.
A potential threat for all in Europe as well.
If Italy and Norway want to send troops to Iraq, should assign them to the UN to manage them, under clear international mandate, and not – repeat NOT – under US command.
This means if the peacekeeping troops are sent under UN mandate, then UN can withdraw them anytime, and not – repeat, NOT - be left to be slaughtered by alleged war criminals who cannot keep their assets into their own trousers.
That could lead to World War 3, which is what the US have been planning for a long time, as part of their long term economic policy.
If the UN does not take immediately an authoritative position in establishing and maintaining fairness in world order, then terrorism will find its biggest ever case to strike.
International terrorism, in this case, is produced by a twisted political system that has been deviated to serve the purpose of some, and not others, who are left helpless and impotent.
Nobody likes to be impotent.
Frustration kicks in.
In the face of ‘institutional ‘ terrorism, in the face of gross abuse that cannot be prevented by international justice, individuals who have lost all reason, and have no better cause, will not hesitate to give up their lives.
Or the lives of others.
If there is no hope for them, why there should be hope for others?
Thankfully, the majority of people and individuals, irrespective of their political beliefs, are reasonable.
Reasonable people however would not like to operate outside the boundaries of legality, which is where the US military policy is currently being enforced .
Now that is a problem that the international community must address urgently.
America sparked off a cultural revolution in 68, that has contributed greatly to advances social policy worldwide of the last decades.
Even thought America is victim of its own marketing success, one should accept that the contribution to economic culture is indeed great, and not all bad, although badly degenerated.
Too much of a good thing can be harmful, we know that.
The majority of nations, irrespective of their troubles, have understood that current US political maneuvers are driven by the self interest of only a handful of individuals, and this is dangerous for global stability, and unfair to the rest of us
There is a lot of progress still to be made. Women are still beaten, children still abused, people still have appalling living conditions in the largest portions of the world.
Most people cannot even say what they think, most of the time, because they are victimised one way or another.
The UN job is to try and fix all that.
It is up to the international community to rise and take a clear stance. Make sure that there is a global authority that all Heads of State must respond to, irrespective of how ‘hotheads’ and unreasonable they are by tradition.
This should be true for the Saddam and for the Bush of this world.
If that does not happen, there will be endless faidas, terror and destruction, possibly the end of civilization as we know it.
