The SilverStripe open source website platform, a PacktPub open source CMS awards finalist, released their inaugural blog module amidst a buzz of other new features and modules.
The free blog module requires the just-released Silverstripe 2.1, and features a drag-n-drop system to customise "widgets", or plug-ins; all in a bid to raise the expectation users have when managing their website. The 2.1 release also acts as a call to PHP5 developers comfortable in writing clean object-oriented code, to produce and contribute new widgets for SilverStripe.
Serious work has also gone into SilverStripe 2.2, which is also to be released shortly. This release will contain the fruits of 10 programmers each working several months, funded by Google. The upcoming features include - OpenID-based login to forum, and CMS admin - Google Sitemaps, Adwords support - Multi-language backend, and front-end - Hundreds of usability, security and speed improvements - Flickr, Youtube, Technorati and GoogleMaps modules
