Sigma-Aldrich Corporation, a $1.1 billion life science and high technology company has been named as one of the top 50 U.S. companies successfully using the Internet to expand and enhance their business by Ziff Davis SMART BUSINESS magazine.
Recent additions to the IR WEBSITE include the deployment of 90,000 spectra - `finger-prints' of a given product - used by analytical chemists around the world.
Finding these spectra is easier thanks to a new feature that gives customers the ability to search for products using Available Chemical Directory (ACD) numbers from MDL, the recognized leader in discovery informatics for life sciences and chemistry.
Customers can also use ACD numbers to locate Sigma-Aldrich product information/specifications, Material Safety Data Sheets, Certificates of Analysis, and Technical Bulletins/Application Notes.
With this broad variety of information, the Sigma-Aldrich site has become one of the most important scientific `go-to' and procurement sites, generating nearly one million monthly visits and contributing greater than 15% of USA research sales, up from 10% at the end of 2000. And, Internet use is expanding internationally to provide 9% of worldwide research sales. Continued enhancements and active marketing are expected to boost these percentages even higher.
Responding to industry needs has earned Sigma-Aldrich a strong position as a leader among scientific research Web sites.
A recent study by
BioInformatics www.gene2drug.com, study entitled: Marketing to Life Scientists: Keys to Success, discovered that respondents named Sigma-Aldrich's site as the most useful in the industry.
"By incorporating the content and tools scientists want most - price lists, protocols and detailed product descriptions, Sigma has created more than a useful catalog - it has created a valuable online resource contributing to the advancement of science" says Bill Kelly, president of BioInformatics.
