Factiva, a global news and business information provider, has launched Factiva Developer's Kit; an application-programming interface which allows developers to create customized applications that integrate Factiva's content and functionality into end-users' workflow systems such as customer relationship management software (CRM), Intranets and enterprise information portals (EIP).
Factiva Developer's Kit allows developers to create highly customized user interfaces to Factiva content and functionality, providing users with Factiva's external world-class news and business information as well as internal information through a seamless, single point of access. The XML-based API provides developers with maximum flexibility and a simplified development path to customisation that previously would have required months of co-development.
The kit is application agnostic, platform independent, XML-based and uses standard Internet technologies, says the company, that provides a set of transactions that can be used to develop applications that interact with the content and functionality of the platform. Customers can choose to have their own internal IT staff handle development, or use the company’s Professional Services, Factiva's full-service consulting group, to assist in the integration and development process.
"Factiva Developer's Kit provides organizations with the tools to easily enhance their information technology with external news. Factiva's powerful and flexible web services enable our world-class news and business information to be presented in existing applications and workflows, through direct interaction with Factiva's open architecture allowing developers to link their applications to Factiva's functionality," explains Stacey Gelman, chief product officer of Factiva. "A variety of services are offered including search, track, authentication and symbology, in order to design customized user interfaces that seamlessly deliver information based on a user's profile with pin-point accuracy."
Developers are provided with access to the Factiva Developer's Portal, where they can download documentation, source code, application samples and view tips and techniques. Factiva Developer's Kit is also available to third-party application developers seeking to integrate news and business information into their vertical or job-specific business applications.
